Vijayawada Western Bypass Project Nears Completion

The state government is ramping up efforts to enhance radial road connectivity to the Vijayawada Western Bypass, with the project expected to be completed in the next five months. Authorities are currently focused on relocating high-tension (HT) power cables that are hindering progress.

The Vijayawada Western Bypass is a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the city. Approximately 85% of the work has been completed, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced construction on the approach road for the bridge over the Krishna River at Suraipalem, near Gollapudi.

The NTR district administration has successfully relocated four HT power lines belonging to the AP Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL). However, the project faces delays due to remaining power lines owned by a private generation company that have yet to be moved.

Additionally, around 14 connecting roads are set to be developed before the inauguration of the western bypass. There are proposals to expand the Gannavaram-Mustabada road into a four-lane highway, linking it to the Western Bypass, which will help reduce traffic on NH-16.

Roads and Buildings Secretary Kantilal Dhandee and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) inspected the proposed radial roads. ?Road connectivity is key for the development of the city. The radial roads will facilitate entry and exit to the bypass road. Multiple exits and entries are being developed by NHAI, and proper radial roads are necessary. The state government will widen these roads,? Chinni stated.

He also mentioned that a proposed 5.5 km long flyover from Mahanafu Road to Nidamanuru will be constructed once the bypass road becomes operational.
