Water Taxi from Colaba to Navi Mumbai Airport May Cut 40 Minutes Travel

CIDCO and the Maharashtra Ports Department are planning to introduce a water taxi service that will connect South Mumbai to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. This new route is expected to reduce travel time significantly, cutting the journey from over an hour by road to approximately 40 minutes by water.
The water taxis will operate from a newly constructed jetty near the Radio Club in Colaba. Currently, the road journey to the airport via the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link takes around 60 to 75 minutes, but the electric water taxis are projected to save more than 30 minutes, particularly during peak traffic hours.
The initiative follows directions from the Chief Minister, who emphasized the need for multi-modal connectivity to the new airport, including road, rail, metro, and water transport options, to facilitate smooth passenger travel.
CIDCO鈥檚 Managing Director recently presented the water taxi plan to the Ports Minister. The Maharashtra Maritime Board, part of the ports department, will oversee the construction of a new jetty near the airport to provide direct water access.
The Ports Minister has instructed his team to prepare a formal proposal for the jetty and terminal and to start the approval process with airport authorities. With these steps underway, the water taxi service is expected to offer a faster, cleaner, and more scenic travel option for Mumbai residents and visitors heading to the airport.
