Two of Maharashtra’s first bullet train projects set in motion

The first intra-state high-speed bullet train rail projects in Maharashtra, one from Mumbai to Nagpur and the other from Mumbai to Pune, may finally get off the ground.

Raosaheb Danve Patil, Minister of State for Railways, reviewed the alignments on Monday and issued directives to complete the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in the first half of 2022.

Two high-speed rail corridors for Maharashtra have been proposed Mumbai-Nashik-Nagpur High-Speed Rail and Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad High-Speed Rail. Trains will travel at 300 kmph. A team from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation presented both projects to Danve, who advised them to move quickly.

The Mumbai Nagpur High-Speed Rail (MNHSR Bullet Train) project is a 741 km proposed High-Speed Rail line that will connect Mumbai, Nasik, Shirdi, Aurangabad, and Nagpur via 12 stations in Maharashtra at an undetermined cost.

This is the third of six new high-speed rail corridors planned by the Indian government for 2019, for which the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) has begun preliminary work in preparation for the project's start.

The Mumbai-Hyderabad High-Speed Rail (MHHSR Bullet Train) project is a 767 km proposed High-Speed Rail line that will connect Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad via 11 stations in Maharashtra and Telangana at an undetermined cost.

This is the fifth of six new high-speed rail corridors planned by the Indian government for 2019, with basic tendering beginning in October 2020 and construction beginning in 2021.
