The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed 288-kilometre Circular Railway Project encircling Bengaluru will be finalised and submitted to the Railway Board by August 2025, according to Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager of the Bengaluru Division, South Western Railway (SWR).The Circular Railway is part of a larger initiative to expand the city鈥檚 rail infrastructure. Envisioned as a seven-leg network, the project aims to ease traffic congestion in and around Bengaluru. The Final Location Survey has already been sanctioned, and work on the DPR is currently underway.Addressing the delays in the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP), SWR officials clarified that the division has handed over all requested land for Corridors 2 and 4 out of the four planned corridors. Land acquisition for Corridor 1 is still in progress, after which it will be transferred to K-RIDE, the agency executing the suburban rail project.In parallel, significant enhancements are being planned for KSR Bengaluru Railway Station. Two new platforms will be added to the existing 10, at an estimated cost of Rs 2.22 billion. The expansion will necessitate the partial demolition of the MG Railway Colony and will include a new, fourth entrance to the station.The city鈥檚 rail infrastructure is also being bolstered through other key projects. The Bengaluru Cantonment Station is being redeveloped at a cost of Rs 4.85 billion. Additionally, the quadrupling of the 38-kilometre section between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield is in progress, aiming to enhance rail connectivity and capacity in the region.
