FAT completed for three tunnel boring machines: Terratec

Terratech has announced the completion of the factory acceptance tests (FAT) for three tunnel boring machines to be used by Afcons Infrastructure on the Package-8 of the 82.15 km Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Line.

The new diameter of 7.51 m of the Earth Pressure Balance Machines (EPBMs) will be deployed to build the Brahampuri Down Ramp to Begumpul Up Ramp in Meerut through three stations, including Meerut Central, Bhaisali and Begumpul.

Afcons Infrastructure was awarded the contract of Package-8 of Delhi-Meerut Line for Rs 1,529.10 crore in November 2020 with a deadline of 3.6 years.

According to the sources, the machines will be dismantled and transported to India through a sea route and re-assembled on site.

These tunnel boring machines are larger than the regular ones. It will allow the line's Alstom semi high-speed and Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) trains to operate with enough clearance.

Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited (STEC) is working on Package-4 of the metro project. The company plans to deploy four tunnel boring machines and has completed FAT in October-November. Currently, those machines are on route to Delhi.
