Kanpur Metro to adopt technology for energy conservation

Kanpur Metro trains and lifts are going to be equipped with Regenerative Braking Technology, which will help in the conservation of energy.
In this technique, the energy generated during the application of the brake in the metro train will be conserved and used back in the metro system. The energy efficiency will be 45% in the metro trains running in Kanpur.
It means 450 units will be generated out of every thousand units used in running of trains through Regenerative Braking Technology, which would further be re-used in the system.
Escalators and elevators will also be installed at the stations. The energy efficiency of the elevators and the escalators will be 37%. Depots will also be able to save energy with this technology. The whole metro premises will have 100% LED lighting for energy saving.
Additionally, the plan to install solar panels at metro stations and depots is being prepared.
The Polytechnique depot of the Kanpur Metro will be equipped with a 'zero discharge facility' 鈥� the wastewater will be recycled and used for various purposes instead of being disposed of or discharged.
Two water treatment plants are said to be installed at the depot. The greywater, which comes from washrooms, kitchens, floor cleaning, etc., will be recycled in a sewage treatment plant (STP) of 10,000 litres per day capacity.
An effluent treatment plant (ETP) will be installed to recycle black water, with a capacity of 70,000 litres per day.
