Mumbai Metro-5 to be completed in four years: MMRDA

Mumbai Metro-5 (Orange Line 5) on the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan route, a major line that is expected to ease commute in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), is likely to be completed by December 2024, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced.

The 24.90 km elevated corridor will offer much needed connectivity in areas heavily dependent on the suburban railway. It will also provide interconnectivity with Metro-4 on the Kasarwadavali-Thane-Wadala route and Metro-12 between Taloja and Kalyan.

Out of the 24 km line, a 12.7-km stretch between Kapurbawadi and Bhiwandi connects Kapurbawadi, Balkum Naka, Kalher, Kasheli, Purna, Dhamankar Naka, Anjur Phata, and Bhiwandi. The first pier cap of this stretch near Balkum in Thane was erected last week, MMRDA said.
