Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation to spend Rs 300 cr to install escalators

MMRC told the media that 414 escalators will be installed between SEEPZ and Colaba. The escalators will have multiple speed options, with the maximum being 0.65 metre per second.
An MMRC officer told the media that two types of escalators would be installed on the complete route, one with a capacity of carrying 6,000 people per hour with a speed of 0.50 metres per second and another with an hourly capacity of 7,300 people at a speed of 0.65 metres per second according to the plan. He added that Rs 292.56 crore is the estimated cost for Metro Line -3 escalators.
The tentative deadline date for the installation work completion for the first prototype escalator is mid-August 2021 at MIDC.
Although the groundwork is in full swing, the car shed location for Metro line 3 has still not been finalised.
MMRC recently achieved its 39th breakthrough at the proposed Mahalaxmi Metro Station. The upline drive of 1117.5 metres has been completed by TBM Tansa-2 from Science Museum Metro Station to Mahalaxmi Metro Station in 257 days, using 745 concrete rings.
The package-3, which includes Mahalaxmi, Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli Metro stations, Science Museum and Mumbai Central, has now witnessed a total of three breakthroughs - Science Museum to Mahalaxmi (upline 1,117.5m) and Science Museum to Worli (upline 2,072m and downline 2,057m) and is the longest stretch of the corridor.
Metro line 3 is an underground corridor running along Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ, which is 33.5 km long. The length of the corridor is marked with 27 key stations, out of which 26 will be underground.
