Mumbai metro to have private entry for developers

Metro 3 will be India's first network to offer private pedestrian subway access linked to stations. The project has attracted the attention of eight private entities that will serve as developers. Across its 32-kilometer underground corridor, each of the six stations has three developers interested.

These private entities will have exclusive rights to use the subway, which will be linked to the stations, for their employees and clients. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), which is building this corridor, expects Phase I (Aarey to BKC) to open in December 2023 and the entire network up to Cuff Parade to open in July 2024.

The private access corridor will be built by MMRC but the cost will have to be borne by all the private entities. In case multiple developers are sharing a common subway the operations and maintenance (O&M) cost will be borne by the developers proportionately.
