Pune Metro Line 3 gets first Indian Alstom train

Pune IT City Metro Rail (PITCMRL) announced the arrival of the first train for Pune Metro Line 3 project in Pune. It was mentioned that the train, which was sourced from Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, would arrive on 2nd June at the Mann depot of Pune Metro Line 3. It was noted that this train, entirely made in India, was developed and built at the Alstom facility in Sri City (Andhra Pradesh).

PITCMRL had awarded a contract to provide a total of 22 train sets for Pune Metro Line 3. These train sets, each consisting of three cars with a carrying capacity of 1000 passengers, were set to enhance urban mobility in Pune.

The work on Pune Metro Line 3, on the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route, had been jointly undertaken by Tata Group and PMRDA based on the Public Private Partnership (PPP). Tata Group had established Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) company for its implementation.

Alok Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer of Pune IT City Metro Rail, commented on the timely arrival of the first train, stating that the trains being sourced for Pune Metro Line 3 were equipped with cutting-edge technology like the third rail system and regenerative braking. He mentioned that these trains were designed to provide a safe, reliable, and eco-friendly mode of transport, showcasing their commitment to innovation and sustainability. He added that the Pune Metro Line 3 trains would have an operational speed of 85 km/h to smoothly connect the IT hub of Hinjawadi with the central business district of Shivajinagar. He emphasised that it was the policy of the Tata Group not to compromise on quality and safety in all phases of the project, undertaken for the convenience of the citizens, and these trains were a testament to their dedication.

Neha Pandit, Director and Business Head of Pune IT City Metro Rail, expressed that at Pune Metro Line 3, their priority was to deliver an exceptional travel experience for passengers. She mentioned that while finalising the designs of these trains, they had put a special focus on enriching the customer experience. She elaborated that the PML 3 trains featured eye-catching color codes, engaging designs, spacious interiors that smoothly welcomed specially-abled passengers as well, ergonomic seating for maximum comfort, and advanced passenger information systems, all aimed at enhancing the comfort and convenience of commuters. She conveyed their excitement in offering a modern, efficient, and enjoyable transit option that would significantly improve the daily commute for thousands of Pune residents.
