RailTel installs IP-based CCTV cameras at 813 major stations in India

National transporter Indian Railways and RailTel have installed IP-based CCTV surveillance cameras at 813 major stations across the country.
RailTel told the media that the work is in progress at 47 additional stations and is going to be completed soon. It also said that 756 more are targeted to be covered by March next year.
The project includes all categories of railway stations, and RailTel is executing around 5,000 stations.
Indian Railways signed an MoU with RailTel for installing CCTV cameras at stations last year on June 25. RailTel floated four tenders for covering 456 stations in May this year.
These CCTVs are being networked on the optical fibre cable. Their video feed is displayed at a centralised CCTV control room at divisional and zonal levels and at local RPF posts.
To ensure enhanced security and safety at railway premises, the CCTV cameras of stations and video feeds are monitored at three levels.
RailTel finished setting up a centralised control room at 14 railway zones, and work on the rest is ongoing.
To monitor servers, switches, UPS, and cameras, which can be viewed from any web browser by authorised personnel, a Network Management System (NMS) has also been provided.
Four types of IP cameras, bullet types, Dome type, Ultra HD-4k and Pan Tilt Zoom type, are installed to ensure maximum coverage inside the railway premises.
It will give an additional edge to the RPF officials to reinforce security. The recording of the video feed from 30 days will be stored in the CCTV cameras.
