The Rajasthan government is planning to expand the metro network in Jaipur under Phase-2, which will connect residential colonies, the airport, and industrial and commercial areas. According to a government official, work on Metro Phase-2 is anticipated to commence in the next few months. The official mentioned that the state budget for 2024?25, recently presented in the state assembly, highlighted the government's commitment to accelerating Jaipur Metro's development. Metro Phase-1 currently covers around 11 km in the city, and Phase-2 aims to extend the network to industrial and institutional areas, Jaipur airport, and large residential colonies. The expansion will also include planning for some new metro routes. The state government has begun updating the old detailed project report (DPR) for Phase-2. The official explained that a new traffic study will be conducted, covering a total of 61 km of new routes. This study will update the DPR for a 30-km route from Ambabari to Sitapura and examine a 10-km route from Ambabari to Vidyadhar Nagar to ensure connectivity to major industrial and residential areas. Consideration is also being given to extending the metro beyond Sitapura to the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), which would connect the large residential and institutional area of Jagatpura. Additionally, a new 3 km route will be studied to link the old walled city area to Phase-2. Plans include connecting the Badi Chaupad station of Metro Phase-1 to Phase-2 near Ramniwas Bagh. Furthermore, possibilities are being explored to link Agra Road in the eastern part of the city with both Phase-1 and Phase-2 via a three-kilometer route from Transport Nagar to Sanganeri Gate via Ghatgate.
