Tatanagar Railway Station Reopens 40-Meter-Long Covered Pathway

The 40-meter-long covered pathway at Tatanagar railway station, which had been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, reopened to pedestrians on Saturday.

Notably, the pathway was established in response to a complaint received by senior divisional railway officials.

The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the city's leading traders body, complained to divisional railway manager (DRM), Chakradharpur, Arjun J Rathore, on Friday about the problems commuters were experiencing as a result of the pathway closure.

?Due to the closure of the pathway, the commuters entering the station from the main road experience trouble in carrying the luggage as people have to walk through the main entrance to enter the station,? said Vijay Anand Moonka, SCCI President.

Ragpickers also have been blocking the pathway with sacks of clothes and utensil waste, giving an unpleasant look to the access path. ?The garbage sacks at the pathway offered a poor impression of the station premises to visitors,? said tour operator, Vipul Kumar.

?Due to the pathway closure, the vehicles dropping passengers to the station stop at the portico which causes overcrowding,? said sports teacher, Badrinath Chaubey. With the restoration of the pathway, the pick-up vans, autorickshaws and personal vehicles can drop passengers on the main road near the pathway entrance.
