Bengaluru's Namma Metro Yellow Line is gearing up for a December launch, generating excitement as it introduces driverless trains along its 19-km route from RV Road to Bommasandra, linking to Electronics City, the city's tech hub. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is diligently working towards inaugurating this pivotal segment, which promises to significantly enhance the city's public transport system. Scheduled for the end of October, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will conduct a thorough inspection to ensure compliance with safety regulations before passenger operations commence. Anticipating increased demand, the BMRCL expects the delivery of six new trains from Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) by December. These additional trains will bolster the Yellow Line's capacity, catering to Bengaluru's growing ridership, particularly in India's IT hub. A notable technological advancement is the introduction of driverless trains earlier this year, developed by CRRC (China), marking a significant stride towards a modern and efficient metro network, especially beneficial for the bustling route to Electronic City. Furthering technological integration, the collaboration between Titagarh and CRRC expands with the introduction of 14 train sets equipped with cutting-edge Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology. Scheduled for arrival from August onwards, these advancements promise a smoother and more efficient passenger experience. Currently, the BMRCL is rigorously testing the Yellow Line's operations with comprehensive trials, including 36 different aspects, using a CRRC train. The timely arrival of additional trains by September-October is crucial to finalize testing and ensure a safe public opening. Following CMRS inspection and necessary approvals, the Yellow Line is slated to commence regular operations by December. Initially deploying six trains with a frequency of one every 15 minutes; this launch is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and convenience for commuters, particularly those accessing key technology and industrial hubs along the route. While focusing on the Yellow Line, the BMRCL remains committed to addressing train shortages on other lines, with CRRC set to deliver prototype trains equipped with DTG (Distance to Go) technology in August, followed by 20 more DTG trains by November 2025, further enhancing metro services across Bengaluru.
