Tripura CM flags off New Mumbai-Bound train from Agartala

On October 15, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is set to inaugurate the Mumbai-bound Lokmanya Tilak Express, departing from Agartala railway station, as confirmed by an official statement. Previously operating between Guwahati and Mumbai, the Lokmanya Tilak-Kamakhya Express will now run its route from Agartala to Mumbai starting October 15, according to the official.

A delegation from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), led by General Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava, met the Chief Minister. During the meeting, Tripura Transport Secretary UK Chakma stated that the NFR team extended an invitation to the Chief Minister to flag off the Mumbai-bound Lokmanya Tilak Express. Additionally, the Chief Minister will also inaugurate a new Demu train service from Agartala to Sabroom in South Tripura district on the same day. Furthermore, he is scheduled to unveil a newly installed escalator at Agartala railway station.

The NFR team informed the Chief Minister about their goal to extend the Kanchanjunga Express service up to Sabroom by November, as reported by the Transport Secretary. Chakma also revealed that the NFR aims to complete the electrification work up to Sabroom by March 2024.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for an increased intercity train service between Agartala and Guwahati. He also urged the NFR team to expedite the Agartala-Gangasagar railway project, emphasising its significance in ensuring unrestricted movement from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka.

Earlier, the NFR team conducted an inspection of facilities and existing services at Sabroom railway station in South Tripura district. This inspection was carried out in preparation for the introduction of the Kanchanjunga Express service up to the southernmost border town of the state.
