The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government is ambitiously seeking to attract ?500 million in investments for its defence manufacturing corridor. This initiative aims to bolster India?s defence capabilities by establishing a robust infrastructure for defence production within the state.
This project, part of a broader national strategy, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of self-reliance, or Atmanirbhar Bharat, in defence manufacturing. The UP Defence Industrial Corridor, announced in 2018, is one of two such corridors planned in the country. It spans several districts, including Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, and Lucknow, with the intent to create a comprehensive ecosystem for defence equipment manufacturing.
To achieve this investment target, the UP government is actively engaging with domestic and international defence manufacturers, offering various incentives such as tax breaks, subsidies, and simplified regulatory processes. These efforts are designed to make the state an attractive destination for both Indian and foreign investors.
The government has also committed to developing the necessary infrastructure, including road and rail connectivity, power supply, and skilled labour availability. The initiative is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, potentially transforming the region into a hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
