French experts to support in Chandigarh heritage conservation work

French experts will provide support to the UT administration in the areas of identification, restoration, and legal protection of heritage furniture and the preservation of the architectural heritage of Chandigarh.

On Saturday, the problem was discussed as the French Ambassador to India, Emmanuel Lenain, called on Banwarilal Purohit, Punjab Governor, and UT administrator, during his visit to Chandigarh.

In a meeting held at Punjab Raj Bhawan, the UT administrator said that the French connection to Chandigarh can never be forgotten because the French contribution has been huge, from the city conceptualisation to its planning and execution.

He said French architect Le Corbusier developed this city beautifully, and the French consultants are now rendering expertise in transforming Chandigarh into the Smart City.

He said Chandigarh would look forward to French expertise in the restoration, identification, and legal protection of heritage furniture and architectural heritage preservation.

He appreciated French help in the water supply project. A 24X7 water supply project will be started soon in the city with financial assistance from a French government development agency to cater to the gap between demand and supply of water.

The French representative assured support and told that French experts would look into the restoration and conservation works in Capitol Complex and other exposed reinforced concrete buildings in Chandigarh.
