City's emphasis on designated C&D waste collection sites

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) announced its commitment to establishing dedicated construction and demolition (C&D) waste collection points, addressing the issue of illegal dumping, and educating citizens about responsible waste disposal.
To combat air pollution and manage C&D waste in the city, the civic body revealed that it had initiated proactive measures in collaboration with the Air Pollution Action Group (A-PAG).
It was stated that the primary focus involved the identification of key C&D waste collection points, prevention of illegal dumping, and imparting knowledge to citizens regarding responsible waste disposal.
The Corporation reported that it had pinpointed 49 strategic collection points across various zones, and an additional 35 setups were established to improve accessibility.
According to their statement, since October, 52,000 tonnes of debris had been collected at the designated storage areas, resulting in a significant 38 percent reduction in illegal dumping from October to November. To address the increasing waste disposal needs, new collection points were being established in Narela, Shahdara North, Shahdara South, and Rohini zones.
In an effort to raise awareness, information about C&D waste collection sites could be found on the MCD 311 app and the MCD website. These collection points were strategically located within a 2-3 km radius for the convenience of citizens. Emphasising citizen engagement, the civic body highlighted that they had conducted 213 meetings with resident welfare associations (RWAs) and provided compliance training to 180 waste transporters.
