Coimbatore: CCMC invites bids to install smart water supply system

The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has invited bids to install and maintain bulk flow metres and SCADA systems in the newly developed parts of the city.

Dr M. Sharmila, the CCMC deputy commissioner, told the media that to address the city's problems with water distribution, SCADA and bulk flow metres would be installed for 5.36 crore.

About ten years ago, the number of wards at CCMC increased from 60 to 100. As a result, the local government had trouble providing enough water to the 40 wards that had just been added.

The civic body has been implementing the 24-hour drinking water supply project through Suez Projects Private Limited in the old 60 wards. However, water is supplied to the remaining 40 wards through various schemes, including the Amrut and KVV schemes.

According to media sources, updated water flow metres would be placed, and data would be collected using the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to close the enormous gap in water delivery frequency in the districts.

The entire project report supplied by the civic body has received administrative sanction from the Director of Municipal Administration and Commissionerate Municipal Administration (CMA) approval for technical sanction. The project's execution will now be handled by the CCMC through a tender.

Sharmila informed that a tender has been issued for the installation and upkeep of 113 SCADA-equipped bulk flow metres.

The commissioner said that 79 additional bulk flow metres would be purchased and installed later. The tender is open to bids from interested parties. Once implemented, the distribution problems would be resolved, ensuring an adequate supply of drinking water in all places.
