JMC to launch project on waste management

Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) will launch a waste segregation pilot project. This was stated by Mayor JMC Rajinder Sharma, along with Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Billawaria and Chairman Swachh Bharat Committee JMC Hardev Singh Mankotia.
The mayor stated that JMC will launch a campaign in all of the wards, in which he, Commissioner JMC, and other staff members and corporators from the respective wards will participate.
The campaign will focus on waste segregation at the source, with wet and dry waste separated to keep Jammu clean and beautiful. He stated that our slogan is "Make My City Beautiful."
Rajinder Sharma stated that in the beginning, 100 houses in each ward will be chosen where garbage will be separated before being disposed of in an auto. This way, there will be no large piles of garbage strewn about, he added.
Maintaining that this will be a difficult task, Sharma stated that people are not yet accustomed to this type of habit and that changing their lifelong habit will take time because old habits die hard.
JMC's focus, according to the mayor, is on proper sanitation and keeping the city neat and clean. He stated that in this regard, awareness will be raised through corporators, staff, Nukads, and others in order to gain people's cooperation and make the campaign more effective.
He stated that once the campaign achieves the desired results, there will be no garbage dumps scattered throughout the city wards. "Once we achieve the desired results and see that the campaign was successful, the next 100 houses will be chosen for garbage collection and disposal." He stated that one of the reasons for garbage dumps on road sides and lanes is that people do not have the habit of putting waste in automobiles.
