Residents of Maradu were informed that they would receive drinking water on alternate days, as Kerala Water Authority (KWA) had initiated the redirection of water from neighboring areas. The decision was made following a protest by municipal officials at the office of V K Pradeep, the district chief engineer of KWA in Ernakulam regarding the worsening water scarcity.
A circular issued by KWA stated that measures would be taken to address the drinking water crisis in Maradu municipality during the summer months. It was decided to implement valve arrangements to supply drinking water to areas experiencing a shortage of water.
KWA outlined that drinking water supply would be reinstated in specific divisions of Maradu municipality, including 1, 33, 23, 29, and Valanthakad island.
Additionally, the circular indicated that on Mondays, the supply valve on the northern side of national highway 85, which provides water to Kannadikadu and Thuruthy regions, would be closed to divert water to areas facing shortages. Similarly, on Thursdays, the supply valve on the south side of NH 85, serving Maradu Kottaram and Kathrikadavu areas, would be closed to prioritize water supply to affected divisions.
Antony Ashanparambil, the chairperson of the municipality, expressed gratitude for KWA's decision, stating that it would bring significant relief to Maradu residents, many of whom had been struggling with a lack of drinking water.
