Navi Mumbai civic body announces waste management initiative

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced the Swachh Innovative Technology challenge based on the government's Swachh Technology Challenge under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
All the residents of Navi Mumbai, including students, NGO's, educational institutions, start-up companies, citizen associations, IT and non-IT companies, can participate in this challenge.
For participating, the citizens must present innovative technical projects on waste segregation, collection, disposal, fertilizer generation, recycling, zero waste, plastic garbage management, improved solid waste management systems and increasing people's participation.
Commissioner of NMMC, Abhijit Bangar, said that using this challenge, the corporation wants innovative ideas to improve waste management in Navi Mumbai using technology and to use these creative ideas. The citizens and organizations must present their ideas appreciable at the national level.
The top three technical projects will be sent for the state-level challenge, from where the best idea will be sent for the national competition.
He said that this challenge would bring in the current process, the practicality of the project implementation, project feasibility, cost-and-use effectiveness and the availability of the material to implement the concept while judging the concept.
The participating citizens will have to fill in their details on the online portal and upload their technical projects. The project should include pictures, videos, presentations of a maximum of five files of 1 MB each. The challenge is valid from 15 to 31 December.
