SECI Floats Tender for 2 GW Solar Projects with Storage

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited bids for the development of 2 GW of grid-connected solar projects, coupled with 1 GW/4 GWh of energy storage systems (ESS), to be implemented on a build-own-operate basis across India.

As part of the tender conditions, each 1 MW of solar capacity must be supported by an ESS capacity of at least 500 kW/2 MWh. Developers may either own the energy storage systems themselves or enter into third-party arrangements for the provision of power through separate ESS operators.

SECI will enter into 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the selected project developers, providing long-term revenue assurance.

This initiative marks another significant step in India’s push to strengthen its renewable energy base with hybrid solar-plus-storage solutions, enhancing grid stability, reducing intermittency, and supporting the nation’s clean energy transition.
