Envision Energy India has received RLMM approval from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for its new wind turbine model EN-182/5.0 50 Hz TC on 28 May 2025. The certification paves the way for the company to begin delivering the advanced 5MW onshore turbine, which is tailored to India’s varied wind conditions and marks a significant technological leap in renewable energy.
The EN-182/5.0MW turbine features a 181-metre rotor diameter, a hub height of 105.56 metres, and 89-metre blades mounted on a tubular steel tower. It has been granted a Type Certificate (IEC61400-22:2010) by DNV, valid until 16 February 2026.
Envision has secured an order book of 2GW for this new platform from Independent Power Producers (IPPs), with deliveries scheduled to commence from the third quarter of 2025. The company’s manufacturing facilities in Tiruchirappalli (blades) and Pune (nacelle and hub) are being readied to support this rollout.
Compared to the previous EN-156/3.3MW platform, the EN-182/5.0MW model offers over 40 per cent higher annual energy production, largely due to its larger swept area and enhanced turbine operating capabilities, including functionality in ambient temperatures up to 50°C. These improvements make it particularly suitable for low-wind regions, helping maintain generation targets and improving cost-effectiveness.
The platform also includes upgraded safety features, such as improved smoke and fire detection systems. In line with its 'Make in India' commitment, Envision aims to raise localisation from 60 per cent on the 3.3MW model to 80 per cent for the new 5MW platform, thereby strengthening domestic supply chains and production resilience.
RPV Prasad, Managing Director of Envision Energy India, stated: “The RLMM approval and launch of the EN-182/5.0MW platform underline our dedication to innovation and quality tailored for India. As high-wind areas are increasingly saturated, this model’s efficiency in low-wind regions ensures reliable performance and economic viability.
The approval reinforces Envision’s position as a key player in India’s renewable energy sector, advancing the nation’s clean energy goals while delivering cutting-edge technology adapted to local conditions.
