Mizoram to adopt smart prepaid power meters

Mizoram will begin using pre-paid smart power metres in December as part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the Central Government. To increase operational effectiveness and financial sustainability, the state electricity agency has already started the process of replacing outdated postpaid power metres with prepaid smart metres. For the installation of prepaid smart metres, which will be used by all users in the state starting in December, the department has received more than Rs 170 crore from the Center. Consumers have been asked by the government to pay their debts in full and modify their contracted loads in accordance with their overall consumption during peak hours.
