Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with a Japanese delegation, including members of Parliament and business leaders, to explore ways to enhance cooperation in both traditional manufacturing and modern sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), and green and clean energy. The delegation was led by Nukaga Fukushiro, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan. In a post on X, Modi shared, Pleased to meet the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Nukaga Fukushiro, accompanying MPs, and the business delegation. As two democracies and trusted partners with shared interests, we remain committed to deepening our Special Strategic and Global Partnership, including by promoting parliamentary exchanges, investments, skilling, and mobility. The meeting emphasised the strong India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, focusing on areas of mutual interest and cooperation, including people-to-people exchanges and parliamentary interactions, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress on the current target of 5 trillion Japanese yen in investments set between India and Japan for 2022-27. They also discussed ways to further strengthen business and economic ties beyond 2027. The discussions included cooperation in traditional manufacturing (monozukuri) and modern sectors like semiconductors, EVs, and green and clean energy. The importance of the successful and timely completion of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project was also highlighted. Nukaga proposed that India and Japan collaborate to train the NextGen workforce in various trades, including training in Japanese language, culture, and work practices, emphasizing the role of the private sector in these initiatives. He noted that these trained individuals would serve as a bridge between the two countries in the future. Modi emphasised the growing business environment and reforms in India aimed at attracting more investment and technology from Japan. He assured the delegation of the government's full support for these efforts. During their visit, Fukushiro also met with Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Birla welcomed the delegation warmly and highlighted the Indian Parliament's commitment to women empowerment, mentioning the passage of important bills such as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in the first session of the new Parliament House.
