MahaRERA verifies & approves 290 projects out of 450 applications

In the past 40 days, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has granted registration to 290 projects out of a total of 450 applications received from builders. This decision came after thorough verification by local authorities.

The local authorities, including the Pune Municipal Corporation in Pune, were instructed to send the commencement certificates (CC) of projects from their official email ID to MahaRERA for verification and eventual registration of the projects, starting from June 19. This step was taken to prevent the submission of bogus documents for project registration, as had occurred in Kalyan Dombivali.

According to a senior MahaRERA official, only the 290 applications that were verified by the local authorities were permitted to be registered with MahaRERA. The remaining 160 applications will undergo clearance after verification by the respective local authorities.

To enhance transparency, the CCs received from the local authorities will be cross-checked with the certificates provided by the developers before final project registration.

MahaRERA had previously urged the state's urban development department to establish a system that displays all approvals, such as commencement and occupation certificates, granted for real estate projects on a dedicated portal by the competent authorities. This measure allows both buyers and MahaRERA to verify the authenticity of the certificates.

Consumer groups welcomed these measures, as they believe that a coordinated system from local authorities will ensure necessary checks and enhance transparency for homebuyers. Wardha Gupta, who recently booked a flat in a MahaRERA registered project in the city, expressed her approval of these developments.
