Scindia to inaugurate Tezu Airport upgrades

On September 24, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chief Minister Pema Khandu will inaugurate the newly developed infrastructure at Tezu Airport in Arunachal Pradesh's Lohit district. This infrastructure expansion includes an extended runway, a new apron, a terminal building, a fire station, and an ATC Tower, with a total cost of Rs 1.70 billion . The airport spread across 212 acres, can now accommodate ATR-72-type aircraft operations, thanks to the upgrade work carried out by the Airports Authority of India. Operationalised in 2018 under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, Tezu Airport presently connects to Dibrugarh, Imphal, and Guwahati through regular flights by Alliance Air and Flybig Airlines.

The new terminal building spans 4,000 sqm and has a peak-hour capacity of 300 passengers. It currently features five check-in counters, with plans to increase them to eight in the future. Additionally, the airport offers two arrival carousels and two aircraft parking bays for ATR-72-type aircraft. Notably, the terminal incorporates several eco-friendly features, such as a double-insulated roofing system, energy-efficient lighting, solid waste management, water reuse for flushing and horticulture, and integrated rainwater harvesting.

This upgrade is expected to enhance the airport's capacity, improve connectivity in the northeastern region, boost tourism and trade, and create job opportunities.
