Second Bengaluru airport may come up near Nelamangala

State Government actively searching for a second airport in Bengaluru, the final location might now be near Nelamangala. Following extensive evaluation, it appears that the state government has selected a site near Nelamangala-Kunigal along National Highway 75 for the proposed second international airport. This decision aims to address Bengaluru's growing development needs, increasing passenger traffic, and cargo pressure. The state initiated the process of building a second international airport, after Delhi and Mumbai, and had considered seven to eight locations around the city. According to technical standards set by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the site between Nelamangala and Kunigal seems to have been finalised.

It is reported that air traffic at the existing Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has been rising. Considering Bengaluru鈥檚 future needs, the 11th round of discussions concerning the development of the second international airport took place last Friday. In a meeting chaired last month by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, various sites, including Harohalli on Kanakapura Road, Bidadi, and Nelamangala, were reviewed. Although Harohalli near Kanakapura Road was considered for serving passengers in the southern part of Bengaluru, it was found to be less suitable due to limited development potential, being close to the Tamil Nadu border. In contrast, the Nelamangala area was deemed more appropriate from an overall development perspective.
