The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) gave its nod for the 340 km 鈥楻egional Ring Road鈥 (RRR) around Hyderabad, connecting all Telangana districts with the state capital.
The RRR will be a four lane access controlled highway and will cost Rs 16,000 crore. This will be the longest bypass in India.
In November 2016, the MoRTH had approved the declaration of the two parts of RRR鈥攏orthern and southern鈥攁s a national highway. The recent decision has now paved the way for land acquisition and preparatory work.

The RRR is to be taken up in two parts. The 158 km northern part, connecting Gajwel, Sangareddy, Yadadri, Narasapur, Toopran, Pragnapur, Choutuppal and Bhongir, will be taken up at a tentative cost of Rs 7,560 crore. The Centre will wholly fund it. Another Rs 1,961 crore will be spent on land acquisition. The state government has agreed to bear 50% of the land acquisition and pre-construction cost.
Once the RRR is operational, highway traffic heading towards Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur can be diverted onto this access-controlled road, reducing congestion and pollution in Hyderabad and Cyberabad.
: Ring roads are being built to decongest Indian cities, but Hyderabad is taking advantage of its location in the centre of the state by also connecting it to all of Telangana鈥檚 districts in one massive project.
