MMRDA plans to carry out traffic impact and dispersal study of road

The MTHL project includes a 21.8-kilometre-long elevated road of which 16.11 km is a sea-link that will join Sewri in South Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai. The project is being executed at Rs 18,000 crore so far. Around 80% of the work on the MTHL has been finished. The MMRDA will complete the remaining before December 2023 and get the MTHL ready for the public.

As part of the project, the MMRDA is also building the Worli-Sewri connector connecting the MTHL to the Coastal Road in Worli.

The connector will permit motorists travelling from the Western Suburbs via the coastal road to drive out of Mumbai without entering the interior part of Mumbai.

The study will be conducted to show how vehicular traffic will be transformed in Mumbai, once the MTHL is commissioned and whether it will create any traffic-related problems in the city, according to MMRDA officials.

The number of vehicles heading towards Navi Mumbai and those entering Mumbai from Navi Mumbai will rise in the future, and there is a chance of bottlenecks and congestion at the busy crossroads of the MTHL connector and the Worli-Sewri connector.

The analysis will be carried out to ascertain the locations and problems related to the traffic movement.

There is a chance of traffic congestion on different routes in the city as the number of vehicles will grow on the route. Therefore, the MMRDA is creating an effort to provide the uninterrupted movement of vehicles coming from MTHL to Mumbai without any restriction. Based on the study outcome, measures will be taken by the agency to avoid traffic jams, and necessary flyovers, subways, or other structures will be constructed.
