State to construct new Paikul bridge at Rs 12.5 crore: Goa CM

On Wednesday, Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, told the media that the state government has decided to build a new bridge at Paikul for Rs 12.5 crore.

The bridge had washed out because of the recent floods in Valpoi.

Sawant told the media that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) would build the bridge.

Sawant said that GSIDC would shortly float a tender inviting bidders. The chief minister said that people whose homes were damaged must give some identity proof to get financial help from the government to rebuild their homes, while for those who do not hold any proof, the state will investigate those cases and take a suitable decision.

Sawant had said that houses that were levelled in the floods would be rebuilt with a budget of Rs 4 lakh. The state government will give Rs 2 lakh to those who have lost their homes in the floods, and Rotary International will provide Rs 2 lakh for the same, he had said.
