NHSRCL prepares DPR for 766 km Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train corridor

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the 766 km bullet train corridor project proposed between Mumbai and Nagpur.

The DPR is to be submitted to the government by 2022. According to an official, project work, including lidar survey, aerial survey, social impact assessment (SIA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA), has been completed for the high-speed rail project. The data collected is under analysis for the DPR.

The high-speed rail will pass through ten districts, and land acquisition is required in a few districts.

The bullet train project aims to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur by more than 50%. An official said that now it takes 12 hours to reach Nagpur from Mumbai by road. However, the bullet train will reduce the time to four hours. After the government sanctions the project, the project work will further proceed.

He added that running bullet trains parallel to Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg are also explored. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) is developing a six-lane expressway project of 700 km between Mumbai and Nagpur.
