Delhi Metro bags award for outstanding civil engineering

The prestigious Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award for the year 2020 has been given to the Delhi Metro's Phase I, II, and III projects by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).

The JSCE has designated the Delhi Metro as a High-Quality Infrastructure Development Project.

The JSCE stated in its award note that the Delhi Metro projects increased awareness of safety and efficiency at construction sites in India while also providing residents with safe, secure, and comfortable transportation. This award is given to a small number of projects that demonstrate global advancements in civil engineering technology.

The civil engineering achievements of the Delhi Metro over the last two decades have received international acclaim and have been recognised by prestigious international organisations.

Previously, a post-evaluation study conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) rated the Delhi Metro's Phase I implementation as Excellent.

Delhi Metro has been closely associated with Japan since its inception.

JICA provided value-added activities such as knowledge assistance by introducing Japanese innovative technologies and mindsets of safety and innovation, unique work culture, technical cooperation, and DMRC capacity building to all phases of the Delhi Metro project, including the current Phase IV project.

The Delhi Metro's transformation into a global shining example of urban mass transit has been aided by Japan's unwavering support, JICA, and the India Office.
