The South Central Railway (SCR) zone recorded an overall loading of 9.5 million tonnes (mt) in August, up 51% from 6.3 mt in the same month last year.There has been a rebound in freight loading, with all commodities seeing increases. A senior SCR officer told the media that the Railways' cement policy initiatives, combined with the constant efforts of the zone's Business Development Unit (BDU) teams, have resulted in an 84% increase in cement loading this month, compared to 1.59 mt in August last year. SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya expressed gratification that the zone has consistently recorded the highest freight loading figures in every month of this fiscal year. Mallya advised officials to keep the momentum going for the rest of the year so that both the Railways and the customers benefit. On Tuesday, the South Central Railway conducted a detailed inspection of the Secunderabad division's Gadchandur-Pandhar Pavani, Wihirgaon-Wirur-Sirpur Kaghaznagar-Asifabad-Bellampalli-Manchiryal sections to assess freight loading facilities, passenger amenities, and future improvement plans. A senior SCR officer said that the inspection was carried out at Gadchandur, Pandharpavani, Wihirgaon, Wirur, Sirpur Kaghaznagar, and Manchiryal stations by Gajanan Mallya, SCR General Manager, and A K Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad. They looked at the passenger amenities as well as the goods-handling facilities. Due to a downpour in the state, the South Central Railway held a review meeting on train safety on Monday.
