100th pile foundation completed on17 km priority section of Delhi Meerut RRTS

The National Capital Regional Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has completed the pile foundation of the 100th pile on the 17 km priority section Sahibabad to Duhai of the Delhi- Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.

A pile is a long cylindrical foundation that is built deep inside the ground to support the vertical structure on it. On the top of the pile foundation is pile cap, a thick square concrete structure that rests on piles to provide a stable foundation.

The NCRTC team led by Vinay Kumar Singh, Managing Director, NCRTC, has targeted to complete the priority segment of Sahibabad to Duhai by the year 2023.

Civil construction work on the 17-km long prioritised section between the two places is in full swing and the construction will be visible in the form of piers and viaduct soon. The section will have approximately 400 pillars excluding the station boxes.

The 82 km long Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Corridor is the first regional rapid transit system (RRTS) Corridor to be implemented in India which is set to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just 55 minutes.

The entire corridor is expected to be completed by the year 2025 and will run with an operational speed of 160 km per hour and will be three times more efficient than the Delhi Metro trains.
