VIL partners with L&T for 5G-based smart city solutions project

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has tied up with Larsen & Toubro for a pilot project to experiment with 5G-based smart city solutions.

The firms will work together to test and approve 5G use cases made on IoT, video AI technologies leveraging L&T鈥檚 smart city platform 鈥� Fusion, approaching the difficulties of safety & security, urbanisation and proposing smart solutions to the residents. The pilot will be launched in Pune.

Vi has used its 5G trial in the installation of an end-to-end captive network of Cloud Core, new production Transport and Radio Access Network, in Pune city. In its initial test results, Vi has attained a peak speed of over 3.7 Gbps with extremely low latency on the mmWave spectrum band. These speeds were obtained with state-of-the-art equipment in 5G Non-Standalone network architecture and utilising NR Radios.

Vi has been allotted 26 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum in the mmWave band by DoT for its 5G network trials and use cases. Vi has also obtained peak download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps in the 3.5 GHz band 5G trial network with its OEM partners.

The high speed and low latency features of the 5G network allows capabilities like advanced surveillance and video streaming or broadcast to authorise the evolution of 5G smart cities and smart industries. Smart City and Industry 4.0 will stimulate 5G deployment and usher in a new era of Digital India.
