French agencies visit Chandigarh to review 24X7 water supply project

Experts from the French development agency Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) and the European Union (EU) came to Chandigarh to assess the 24X7 pan-city water supply project.

Till September 25, the team will research technical aspects of the project and visit project sites.

The team met with Anindita Mitra, municipal corporation commissioner-cum-chief executive officer (CEO), Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL), as well as other CSCL and MC officers.

The commissioner greeted the delegation, which included Pierre and Ankit from AFD and Delphine and Jatin from the EU, and expressed her gratitude to the EU for the grant in aid and AFD for the loan approval.

She said that discussions took place on several technical aspects of the project, including the detailed plan and the project's financial, environmental, and social implications.

The mode of procurement, mass adaptability, capacity building, project functionality, and public impact were among the other topics discussed.

The AFD or EU has given its approval to the Rs 591.57 crore project, according to Mitra.

DEA and AFD will soon sign a credit liability agreement.

The French experts will also visit sector 39 main waterworks, resettlement colonies, slum colonies, and the MC office, according to the commissioner, to assess the supply system and speak with officials, technical experts, engineers, and residents.
