PM Modi to lay foundation stone for BSRP on June 20

After being delayed for several years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be laying the foundation stone for the awaited Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) on June 20.

On Monday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail project worth Rs 15,000 crore on June 20. This is an important step in realising the long pending dream of citizens.

The project is aiming to connect Bengaluru with the suburbs through a rail-based rapid-transit system that has been a dream of the government since 1983. The project is expected to be completed by 2026 for Rs 15,767 crore, and is also dubbed as 鈥淚ndia鈥檚 most integrated rail project鈥.

The Rail Infrastructure Development Company, Karnataka, (K-RIDE) is a joint venture of the Karnataka government and the Railways Ministry. K-RIDE is responsible for conceptualising as well as implementing the rail project.

The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) project had been first proposed by an expert team by the Southern Railway in 1983. It was estimated to run across 58 km. The proposal had been submitted as part of the first Transportation Survey of Karnataka, commissioned by chief minister R Gundu Rao.

According to the latest blueprint by BSRP the project will cover a rail network of 148.17 km within the city, having 57 stations planned across four corridors and six directions of Bengaluru.
