AAI Initiates Revival of Tripura's Kailashahar Airport

01 Jun 2025
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated efforts to revive the long-defunct Kailashahar Airport in Tripura's Unakoti district, which has been non-operational for over 30 years. A high-level AAI team, led by Regional Executive Director M Raju Krishore, conducted a site visit to assess existing infrastructure and land availability. The current 1,000-meter runway is insufficient for standard aircraft operations, prompting AAI to request an additional 75 to 205 acres from the state government for expansion. This revival aligns with regional connectivity goals and holds strategic importance, especially amid reports of China's involvement in upgrading Bangladesh's nearby Lalmonirhat airbase.
