This is the first depot built for the RRTS project, which will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut with high-speed, cutting-edge trains.
The Duhai Depot of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is now operational, with state-of-the-art facilities, according to officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). This is the first depot built for the RRTS project, which will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut with high-speed, cutting-edge trains.
鈥淭he Duhai depot has many features such as controlling RRTS train operations in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. This depot will handle all such train operations till the second depot comes up at Modipuram in Meerut in March 2025. Besides these two depots, a stabling yard is also scheduled to come up at Jungpura in Delhi,鈥 said Puneet Vats, chief public relations officer of NCRTC.
The priority section, a 17-kilometre stretch of the RRTS project in Ghaziabad, is expected to begin operations this month. The Duhai Depot is one of the facilities built as part of the priority section's five stations.
The administration buildings, workshops, and inspection bay lines at the Duhai depot were built in less than two years. A cutting-edge facility for RRTS trainsets is also operational.
At the Duhai depot, the first set of six RRTS trains in the project was also assembled. Aside from RRTS train parking and maintenance, the Duhai depot also houses a command and control center.
According to officials, the depot will also serve as an RRTS station and have passenger entry and exit points. 鈥淭he command-and-control centre will become fully operational once it is integrated with signalling. The Duhai depot will also handle train operations on the priority section,鈥 Vats said.
The 17km priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai is getting ready for fully integrated trial runs, which will make way for passenger operations later. At present, NCRTC is conducting test runs of RRTS trains from the Duhai depot.
The entire 82 km RRTS project, worth Rs. 30,274 crore, is expected to be completed in March 2025.
