Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a significant section of RapidX, India's premier regional rapid transit system (RRTS), on October 20. The section between Duhai and Sahibabad, spanning 17 km and incorporating stations at Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot, was set to open. Commuters at Ghaziabad RapidX Station could access the Delhi Metro red line's Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) station via a footover bridge. Additionally, PM Modi was anticipated to launch the inaugural RapidX RRTS train in Ghaziabad. The completion goal for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, an innovative regional connectivity initiative covering 82 km in one hour, was set for 2025.
The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project was managed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The RapidX services were hailed as the country's "first railway system" with an impressive operational speed of 160 kmph, surpassing both metro trains and Indian Railways' passenger trains. The initial RapidX train sets were crafted by Alstom, a manufacturing company in Gujarat. The Ministry of Railways approved the RRTS rolling stock train sets, designed for 180 kmph but operational at 160 kmph, marking a significant development.
The RapidX trains, consisting of six coaches, featured a premium coach with distinct entry and exit points on platforms. Fares for RapidX were slated for announcement in the near future.
RapidX, India's first semi-high-speed regional rail services, orchestrated by the NCRTC. These trains, running on the RRTS corridors, aimed to connect vital urban nodes across the National Capital Region (NCR). The NCRTC, a collaborative endeavor of the Union government and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, focused on green energy initiatives such as installing solar panels on stations and depots. According to the NCRTC, "RapidX" would bridge the gap for people residing in NCR's hometowns, providing a modern, sustainable, convenient, fast, safe, and comfortable mode of travel to the national capital.
